The challenge of refining forecasts
One of the biggest challenges for GHT is to refine the forecasts, those figures that estimate flower production, and based on which marketers offer and commit a certain number of stems for each season..
Since the times when forecasts were made exclusively from the keen eye of the peasant, technology has been adding developments –and continues to build tools– so that these figures are more and more precise: from temperature sensors to determine the accumulation of degrees per day to an application for crop operators to record the phenological state of the plants in a tablet to determine the time of harvest. A functionality that adds to the previous information variables such as cutting data, the flower that does not meet export standards and available inventories allows fine-tuning forecasts in the weeks prior to dispatch and determining the exportable supply.
The subject of forecasts will long remain a fascinating challenge in which technology has much to contribute.
